Listen to today’s devo!

They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. (Ps. 19:10)

Expanded Passage: Psalm 19:7-14

My wedding ring is made of gold. My wedding ring also has the tendency to slip off my finger when submerged in water. This has caused more than a few scares since my wedding day. Not only because of the value of the ring, but because of the meaning of the ring, I would be devastated to lose it. It is precious to me. David wrote that God’s law and commands are more precious than gold. And when I read those words, I can’t help but ask myself if I consider anything in my life more precious than the will of God.

In order to not lose my ring, I instead wear a cheap rubber ring when I know I’m going to be swimming or hiking. Because my wedding ring is special to me, I am careful with it. In Romans 6:1, Paul asks if we should go on sinning so grace can increase. “By no means!” is his reply. If we consider God’s decrees precious to us, we must protect them and keep them.

When we follow what God says, our lives are better for it. We are refreshed, made wise, joyful, full of light, given a great reward, and called blameless. His ways are so much better than our ways. Learn his laws and love his commands; there is nothing more precious.

Spend some time praising God for his precious commands in your life.
