The Princeton Review has ranked Houghton College no. 4 nationally among schools that are members of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and as a “Best in the Northeast” college according to their academic ranking report for 2014.
The 226 colleges chosen for its “Best in the Northeast” list are located in 11 states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont, and the District of Columbia. The Princeton Review also designated 155 colleges in the Midwest, 124 in the West, and 138 in the Southeast as best in their locales on the company’s “2014 Best Colleges: Region by Region” lists. Collectively, the 643 colleges named “regional best(s)” constitute about 25 percent of the nation’s 2,500 four-year colleges.
“Ranking no. 4 on The Princeton Review’s academic rankings of the top Christian Colleges is a strong affirmation of the quality of education at Houghton,” said Linda Mills Woolsey, dean of the college.

The Princeton Review issues schools an academic rating that measures “how hard students work and how much they get back for their efforts.” A long list of factors go into this score, including student survey results, the number of hours students study outside the classroom, quality of students the school attracts, student assessments of professors, class size, student-teacher ratio, and other factors.
