He got rid of the foreign gods. (2 Chron. 33:15)

I was sitting in a revival service being held in the small church structure in Mount Frere, South Africa. One could almost imagine the walls exploding outwards due to the large number of individuals who were squeezing in to watch and listen to the evangelist who was preaching so eloquently.

As he reached the climax of his message he stated, “I want to give you this opportunity to take hold of Jesus Christ as your Savior. However, in order to do this you must be willing to let loose of things that you are holding onto that prevent you from taking a tight hold of Christ. Some of you will need to get rid of the amulets and charms that you are holding onto. Others of you must get rid of bitterness and anger that fill your hearts. You must be willing to release them in order to be able to take hold of that which is new in Christ.”

Slowly various ones got up from where they were seated, walked to the front of the sanctuary, and placed objects on the floor. They then walked back to where they had been sitting. There, lying in front of the altar were the charms and amulets they had gotten from the village witchdoctor and had put their trust in.

Reach out to God with open hands and hearts. He is waiting to receive you.

Let go of anything that is preventing you from becoming new in Christ.
