Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. (Ps. 62:8)
Expanded Passage: Psalm 62:1-8
There’s something about preparing for the arrival of a snowstorm—stocking up on food and supplies, studying the forecast, and watching the snow pile up. I’ve always experienced a feeling of warmth while weathering a storm from inside my house, knowing that my family and I are safe.
During the last snowstorm that my family and I experienced, the snow was forecasted to start falling just before we were all scheduled to get home. The pantries were stocked, all the preparations were made, and we were ready to weather the storm—we just needed to all make it home safely. We anxiously watched the weather app on our phones. Clouds gathered on the horizon, and the sun vanished. Road conditions were worsening. My wife picked up the kids and they slowly and carefully made their way home. She texted me while I was at work to let me know that they had made it home safely. Knowing that they were warm and safe at home was comforting.
About an hour later, I made it home. Our house was a warm and safe place while the snowstorm raged around it. David made a similar comparison to describe God—he called God our refuge. A storm can be raging around us, but if we’re in the presence of God, we are safe and comfortable from even the worst storms.
Rest in God as your refuge, safe from any storm.
