Listen to today’s devo!

Prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:21)

The splash was decidedly underwhelming when I threw it in. After we had put such effort into preparing our message, I guess we all expected more magnificence. We were pretty sure that the inspirational words we had penned and carefully rolled up to fit in that green plastic bottle were going to change a life someday.

I think we all envisioned the heroic, obstacle-fraught journey our message would take to encounter just the right person at just the right time. We watched it ease its way under that first bridge and then quickly get caught in an overhanging branch. At that point we realized that the current might have a bit of a different journey in mind.

The Spirit of the Lord is already moving. As believers, we have the option of trying to control our direction or of yielding to God’s perfect will. We will see the most powerful, effective, and far-reaching impact in and through our lives if we choose to trust God’s Spirit and go with him where he is going.

It takes humility to admit that we don’t know the best way. It takes courage to move in the direction that God is calling us. But the evidence of transformational power and the lasting legacy of the biblical writers confirms that yielding to the direction and voice of the Holy Spirit is always the most effective decision.

Build your legacy by yielding daily to the Holy Spirit.
