I have put my hope in your laws. (Ps. 119:43)

THINK ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE base their hopes on. Think about what people trust in. We are taught that this life will not last forever. We know this fact. We have experienced the loss of something we thought would never disappear. Still, we live as if temporary things are what carry the most meaning in life. Frankly, we trust in stuff that will not last, when all we really have for eternity is God’s Word and Jesus Christ himself. The written Word and the Word of God made flesh will never pass away.

In the gospel, we have the promise of salvation. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we have the assurance of help against those who taunt and tempt us. God’s laws govern supreme over all human laws. Freedom and peace come our way when we follow God. He wants us to stand for His truth. We can delight in, love, and obey His commands. Moreover, we can worship and meditate on God’s decrees anywhere and at any time.

Systems, organizations, people, and stuff may disillusion us from time to time. God’s unfailing love and laws will never disappoint us, as we obediently follow Him. In fact, His Word offers a glimpse of heaven as well as the hope of heaven. The living Word of God merits our full trust.

Thank God today for His unfailing and eternal Word.
