And those who walk in pride he is able to humble. (Dan. 4:37)

LEADERSHIP HAS ITS CHALLENGES. For me, one of these challenges has been in the area of pride. Recently, I stepped down from a leadership position I held at my church because God was leading me into other areas of ministry within our congregation. However, during the time I was wrestling with this decision, I found myself struggling with pride. The things I had done as a leader came to mind, and it was hard to not want to take credit for any accomplishments. Thankfully, I know that the accomplishments are those of my team members, and it is through God’s blessing that good things happened.

This is not where we see Nebuchadnezzar. He took the credit for the success of his nation. Even though God had warned him about pride a full year in advance, he didn’t take heed and let pride take over. Ironically, that resulted in him losing everything he had been so quick to take credit for.

Nebuchadnezzar is a great example of what not to do. God warns us of the consequences and tells us what may or will happen. Though we likely won’t face the same consequences Nebuchadnezzar did, God may humble us by taking away the very things we take pride in. The blessings we receive should cause us to bless Him.

Ask God to help you stay humble amid many blessings.
