Listen to today’s devo!

I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed. (Ps. 57:1)

Expanded Passage: Psalm 57:1-5

It was happening so quickly but seemed like slow motion. The riptide was stronger than our girl, and we felt panic we hadn’t experienced before. Though we had been safe and secure in the inlet just moments before, now fear took hold as she struggled against the current carrying her at breakneck speed.

Things can change without warning. In this life we will have trouble. It may be unexpected and certainly won’t seem fair, and it might cause us to question how our heavenly Father could allow his children to experience the kind of pain that we do.

And yet, he is good. And still, he never leaves nor forsakes us. In fact, he is waiting for us to run to him and find refuge under the shadow of his wings where we can be comforted in affliction and renewed in hope. For he is strong and unchanging and our ever-present help in our time of need. He is a God of unending mercy.

When our fear kicked in, so too did our prayer that God would intervene. He answered with clarity of mind and supernatural strength for our son and a friend to be able to reach her. He answered with lifeguards who showed up as our children were almost back to us. And he restored us in peace as we celebrated our girl’s rescue from disaster.

Run to the Father who saves and comforts his children.
