Listen to today’s devo!

Great is the Lord in Zion; he is exalted over all the nations. (Ps. 99:2)

Expanded Passage: Psalm 99

Recently I have been reminded of the enormity of God. Our Scripture today highlights the greatness and worthiness of God to be worshiped.

Isaiah 40:12 and other passages remind us that God measures the width of the universe by stretching out his hand. Some estimate the universe to be ninety-three billion light years wide! I can barely span nine inches with my hand. Scripture informs us that God can hold all the waters of the world in one hand. I can barely hold a tablespoon of water without spilling it.

To God, the islands and mountains of the world are like fine grains of dust. I have a hard time lifting one small boulder. God created billions of stars and can call them all by name. I sometimes mix up the names of my three children. At least three times in the Bible, the globe we call earth is called the “footstool” of God (for example, Matt. 5:35).

In every way, God is so much greater than we are. King David, who contemplated the smallness of people compared with the immenseness of God, said with astonishment, “What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” (Ps. 8:4). And so today, we are reminded to exalt and worship our great God.

Notice the vastness of the sky and marvel at God’s greatness.
