You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. (Ps. 68:9–10)

THE COUPLE SAT BLISSFULLY GAZING into each other’s eyes. Silver hair framed the woman’s smiling face. The man tenderly clasped the woman’s hands with his own worn hands and gently gave her a kiss on her cheek

“Love like that doesn’t exist anymore,” Danielle said as she watched her grandparents feed one another bites of their anniversary cake.

“It wasn’t always like that,” Danielle’s mother retorted.

“What are you talking about?”

“They had a rocky period in their marriage. Dad turned to alcohol and mom started seeing another man.” Danielle’s mouth dropped open in disbelief.

Her mother continued, “but then Dad was invited to church for the first time. He convinced Mom to accompany him. The pastor got them into some serious counseling. New friends held Dad accountable for his drinking. God completely refreshed their marriage through the help of their congregation. Their life together had been poor and lacking in love and respect, but that church helped them discover a richness to their marriage.”

Danielle looked back towards her grandparents with a new appreciation for their young love.

Pray with a trusted friend about what God can refresh in your life.
