Loving Christ, Embracing Our World is the theme of General Conference 2012, the 12th quadrennial meeting of The Wesleyan Church of North America. Convening in Lexington, Kentucky, its daily business sessions will include General Church leaders, district leaders, and elected ministerial and lay delegates. The conferees will hear reports from the Church's North American officials, departments and entities; approve legislation; elect General Church leaders; and cast vision for the next quadrennium.
General Conference 2012 will also include: Inspirational rallies, international rallies and international guests, sessions open to visiting guests, exhibit area, receptions, ministry awards, and area attractions.
Native American ceremony highlights Tuesday Conference session
Wesleyan Natives from the Dakota District presented General Conference attendees with a meaningful glimpse into their customs as well as their faith.
Rev. Larry “Plenty Star” Salway, co-pastor with his wife, Dale, of the fast-growing He Sapa New Life (Wesleyan) Church in Black Hawk, South Dakota, gave the devotional message for the Tuesday morning session of the 12thGeneral Conference.
Retiring and transitioning officers honored
Newly elected General Superintendent, Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, invited five general officers of The Wesleyan Church who will retire or transition to new roles at the rise of General Conference 2012.
In characteristic fashion, Dr. Lyon recalled incidents in their lives which have resulted in their rise to leadership in the Church.
Dr. Jo Anne Lyon elected General Superintendent
By an overwhelming majority, Dr. Jo Anne Lyon was elected the sole General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church. An ordained Wesleyan minister, Dr. Lyon is the founder of World Hope International, the official relief and development partner of The Wesleyan Church. She serves on several national and international boards, including Hephzibah Ministries, National Association of Evangelicals, Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability, and Bread for the World.
