Daily Reading: Psalm 20
Now I know that the Lord saves his anointed; he answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of his right hand. (Ps. 20:6)
God’s honor was being threatened by Israel’s enemy. The first half of Psalm 20 represents the nation of Israel’s support of King David. It was his job as God’s anointed to glorify God’s name through military might. The people were praying for God’s blessing on David to ensure victory. If there was even a hint of insecurity, David encouraged them with his response.
“Now I know” is based on a phrase that means “I have come to the conclusion that. . . .” David’s confidence was based on past experience. Whenever David’s cause was God’s honor, God never let him fail. There was no reason to think that would change in this instance. The people sought support from God through the temple in Jerusalem (v. 2). Through divine inspiration David pointed out that while the requests are made at the temple, the answers come from the true sanctuary of which the temple in all its splendor is merely a copy.
God anointed you when He adopted you. When God’s honor has been your cause, He has never let you fail. You are now His earthly temple. Be confident in knowing that the requests made on earth will be answered from the very halls of heaven where your High Priest intercedes for you. The same power He gave David is available to you. It’s up to you to use it.
