daily Reading: Psalm 18:1–3, 16–19

He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. . . . He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. (Ps. 18:17, 19)

Delight is the universal response of successful rescues. Ask any hostage. Ask a trapped miner. Listen to a young person stuck in the schemes of human perversions. When someone is found, all of heaven rejoices. It makes us all feel good when we hear someone who was trapped has been set free.

What would be on your list if you were asked about the people or things that bring you true delight? Family, friends, and pleasant memories probably top the charts. You are on God’s list of things that delight Him. He created you. He gives you the daily peace and rest you need. He has gone ahead of you into heaven to prepare your heavenly mansion. It’s all because He takes delight in you.

He stretches His hand to you now in order to reach into the chasm you face and draws you out of death. God rescues us because He delights in us. He likes us enough to offer His helpful hand. He loves us enough to sacrifice His Son on the cross of Calvary to save us from the tricks of the Devil now and the pain of hell eternally.

Now it is your turn. Will you delight in the Lord? Will you cheerfully tell as many as possible about the One who also desires to rescue all who will believe for heaven’s sake?

Thank the Lord for rescuing you today.
