The notable Dr. Marie Evatt of Central, S.C., passed away May 25, 2016. She was 91. An alumna of Southern Wesleyan University and Indiana Wesleyan University, she served with Wesleyan World Missions (Global Partners) as a missionary to Sierra Leone for 25 years. Teaching and serving as principal of Kamabai Wesleyan Secondary School, she served a generation of young students in Sierra Leone.

Returning to the U.S. in 1972, she served a second career in leadership with the Wesleyan Women’s Missionary Society as General Secretary of WMS from 1976-1989.

She was preceded in death by four brothers. Survivors include one sister and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 on Saturday, May 28 at Trinity Wesleyan Church in Central, S.C. The funeral will follow at 3:00. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Global Partners (mission agency of Wesleyan Church) or Trinity Wesleyan Church, 700 Issaqueena Trail, Central, SC 29630.
