Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.” (Luke 18:27)

An avid surfer from childhood, at age thirteen Bethany Hamilton was attacked by a tiger shark, resulting in the loss of her left arm at the shoulder. It seemed impossible for her to recover enough to surf again, much less pursue competitive surfing. Yet Bethany eventually became a professional surfer. Impossible, right?

Bethany is quick to point out that her faith in Jesus was a bedrock for her as she recovered against the odds. The injury caused a 60 percent loss of her blood. She miraculously avoided infection over several surgeries. She went back to the water mere weeks after she lost her arm. She had to learn a new kind of balance on boards customized for her injury. Every one of those circumstances could have reminded Bethany that her goal to surf again, especially as a professional, seemed impossible.

The disciples were convinced that rich people enjoyed God’s blessing in a special way. That’s why they were shocked when Jesus made it sound impossible for a rich person to enter His kingdom. If someone who had wealth would find it hard to make it, what hope did an ordinary person have? Impossible, right? “It’s possible with God,” Jesus replied.

Bad decisions, trying relationships, difficult finances, broken health, or shattered dreams can make life seem impossible. Bethany Hamilton chose to work with God to make the impossible possible. Do we?

Let God change one thing within you to help transform a limitation into an opportunity.
