Dr. Lee M. Haines, lifelong servant of God and The Wesleyan Church, passed away on Saturday, August 6, in Noblesville, Ind., at age 88. He served as General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church from 1988-2000. Prior to that he was General Secretary of Education and the Ministry from 1980-1988. A native of Fairmount, Indiana, his ministry as a pastor in Indiana churches, college professor at Marion College (Indiana Wesleyan University), and in several leadership roles at Wesleyan World Headquarters impacted the church and left a legacy which will go on into eternity.

He is also remembered as a consummate church historian, a champion of women in ministry, and an expert author and editor of the Discipline of The Wesleyan Church. Blessed with humility and a tender heart toward people, he brought great intellectual capacity and accomplishment to his service to Jesus Christ. His fellow General Superintendent, Dr. Earle Wilson adds, “He was a good man, faithful to the end. His works do, indeed, follow him.”

Lee married his wife, Maxine, in 1948, and she preceded him in death in 2002. Survivors include one son, one daughter, seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, at Fall Creek/Trinity East Fishers, 11721 Olio Road, Fishers, IN 46037. Another visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, at College Wesleyan Church 200 E 38th St, Marion, IN 46953. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, at College Wesleyan Church.
