On Monday, May 18, 2026, the General Conference re-elected Janelle Vernon. Vernon was recommended by General Superintendent Jim Dunn and nominated by the General Board for a four-year term as general secretary and executive director of Wesleyan Publishing House.
Vernon says, “The general secretary’s team will continue striving to provide Wesleyans easy access to information each person needs to fulfill God’s call. Team goals include clarifying Wesleyan Church governance through editorial and legal review, resource creation, and training, and Wesleyan Publishing House’s prioritizing of its curriculum and supplemental resources.”
Vernon earned a Master of Arts in Christian Leadership while serving at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wilmore, Kentucky, and a bachelor’s degree in communications while serving at Huntington University, Huntington, Indiana. Vernon’s previous career path in private industry, state government and Christian higher education emboldens her leadership and vision as executive leadership service. Since her election as the first lay member of The Wesleyan Church’s Executive Cabinet in 2016, she has served God faithfully as TWC’s executive director for the Communication and Administration Division.
Vernon and her husband, Chuck, have two children and three grandchildren. The Vernons work together to honor God by serving the church.
