See to it, brothers, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. (Heb. 3:12)
IT’S INCREDIBLE THAT a Bible college graduate would maintain a website that promotes atheism, but that’s exactly what my former friend does. As a matter of fact, he posts a vicious tirade against the God who is portrayed in the Old Testament. Doesn’t it seem strange that he spends so much time and energy berating the God he claims doesn’t exist?
I remember the Bible college years, when my former friend distributed tracts, preached the gospel at rescue missions, and seemed to be so zealous for God. I wonder what caused such a drastic change in his thinking. Did a smooth-talking atheistic professor at the university he later attended lead him down a slippery slope away from God? Did he fall into the company of persuasive atheistic friends? Did some tragic event turn him away from God? I may never know, because he does not return my phone calls. However, I can pray that he will acknowledge his lapse of faith and return to a proper relationship with God.
The Bible exhorts us to keep our hearts soft toward God. Hardening of the “hearteries” is a spiritual malady that carries faith-damaging consequences. May we love the Lord always with a pure and trusting heart!
Rest today in the assurance that the eternal God loves you.
