I live . . . to revive the heart of the contrite. (Isa. 57:15)

“HAVE IT YOUR WAY,” started almost forty years ago. Perhaps the statement brings to mind a popular restaurant slogan. However, we need to think a bit further back in history. The attitude that a person can do whatever he or she wants actually started when Adam and Eve decided to make their own rules instead of following God’s instructions.

Living God’s way is realizing that God knows what is best for our lives. It is to live following the example He gave us through what His Son, Jesus, did while He walked on this earth.

Isaiah 57 reminds us that heaven is not too great for God, and a human heart is not too small for Him to dwell in and revive.

When we realize what God prefers in our hearts and minds, we know we can depend on Him instead of ourselves. When we live God’s way, we realize that He has all the resources we need to obey and follow Him. When God helps us to see things from His point of view, we can even give Him our sinfulness, our brokenness. Only He can ultimately restore. Only He can put us back together again.

  • Ask God to help you always remember the difference between who you are and who He is.
