But you, O Lord, be not far off; O my Strength, come quickly to help me. (Ps. 22:19)

In a flash, he was gone! Our young toddler had just been in the front yard playing with his brother and sister. My wife and I were talking with a neighbor close by when we noticed he was missing. A quick check in the house and backyard yielded nothing. Our worry quickly increased as we recalled that just a few days before, another young toddler on our street had gone missing. She was found safe, but the experience added to our growing fear. Several neighbors combed the adjacent streets as we again tried to question our other children. We prayed for God’s protection, guidance, and strength. Minutes passed and still our son remained missing. Quietly, we were prompted to check the house again. Much to our surprise and relief, we found our son playing in the bathroom and unaware of our concern.

Almost daily, we all find ourselves in situations that stretch the limits of our abilities. Whether outrageously joyful or challenging, these moments quickly reveal the weaknesses of our lives and our need for someone else. God promises to walk the road with us, strengthening us in ways we could not anticipate.

The power God provides becomes activated when we follow His leading, regardless of the circumstance. Whether climbing a tall mountain or trudging through a dark valley, God’s strength will enable the next step.

When all your strength seems gone, ask God for more.
