Dr. Jo Anne Lyon, a General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church, has been named by the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA) to a Commission on Accountability and Policy for Religious Organizations.
Iowa Senator Charles Grassley requested the establishment of the Commission, which was formed in April. Sen. Grassley is a ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee.
The National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) reported the news in its regular newsletter. The NAE Insight also noted that fellow NAE board member Dr. Joel Hunter, senior pastor of Northland Church in Longwood, Florida, was named to the same Commission.
According to the NAE, the Commission “will consider a number of sensitive policy issues related to the role of government in monitoring the financial accountability of religious organizations.” In the next three years, experts from all major religious groups within the United States will address the Commission.
