Finals are finished, the caps and gowns are gone and most of the Oklahoma Wesleyan University student body is home for winter break. However, as is often the case, one group remains on campus for a few extra days as the basketball teams who have just begun their season.

This year, with no classes and the rest of campus quiet, the OKWU women’s basketball team took it upon themselves to spend part of their week spreading Christmas cheer to a local family in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, that needed a little extra joy. The team spent two days shopping and planning to surprise a Bartlesville family’s three children with all kinds of Christmas gifts and helpful items.

“One of the four pillars of OKWU’s mission is the ‘practice of wisdom’” said Coach Mark Molder. “And part of that practice is serving our community. We’re blessed to be able to do what we do in this community, and giving back is just one way to say ‘thank you.’”
