Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures. (Gen. 9:16)

WE ALL NEED REMINDERS. At least, I know I do! Rarely a day goes by when I don’t need to add one or more Post-it Notes in places where I hope I won’t miss seeing them.

I’m grateful for the 3M scientist who did not give up searching for a use for the adhesive he accidentally created. For five years he promoted his reusable, pressure-sensitive adhesive. But it was viewed as not usable or practical—as a “solution without a problem.” Then a colleague got the idea to use the adhesive to stop the bookmarks in his hymnal from falling out. Still, there were hurdles to overcome in the effort to convince 3M executives to test market “Press ‘n Peel” notes in four cities in 1977. They were not enthusiastically received. Determined not to give up, in 1978, 3M tried giving away free samples in Boise, Idaho. It worked, and in 1980 “Post-it Notes” were introduced nationwide. The rest, as they say, is history.

Is God forgetful like us? I doubt it. I don’t think He needs to remind himself of the covenant He made to never again destroy the earth with a flood, but He knew we would need a reminder. And what a magnificent reminder He created. It’s one we can’t miss seeing as a rainbow stretches across the sky.

Make a list of other reminders God has given you of His love and faithfulness.
