Psalm 23
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters. (Ps. 23:2)
Tired and ready for bed, I slipped under the warm covers. But before even closing my eyes, I sensed the Lord’s familiar call to join Him. Resisting a bit, I finally crawled out and dressed for our walk together. Outside, the darkness of the night was contrasted by the whiteness of the falling snow. Beauty and quiet surrounded me as I walked down a nearby deserted road. Minutes turned into a couple of hours as I walked, listening for His voice. Not perceiving anything I could identify, I finally stopped and sat down under an old, large tree. Leaning back and closing my eyes, peace and hope washed over me like warm water. Finally realizing His intent, I quieted my mind and opened my heart as the Lord fed and watered my soul with His consuming presence and love.
The journey of life can easily convince us that busyness serves as the cornerstone of fulfilling purpose. If we simply work hard enough and remain tenacious we can succeed, or so the lie goes. However, the greater reality remains that God waits for our coming aside so that He can share true vitality for our desperate hearts.
God smiles with anticipation when we choose to follow His lead from the never-ending activity of living. When we come to Him in stillness, our hearts can experience His beautiful refreshing.
Quiet your heart today and receive the Lord’s refreshing life.
