But I will not take my love from him, nor will I ever betray my faithfulness. (Ps. 89:33)

TWELVE INCARCERATED MEN make up the Second Chance Choir. In my home county, the jail commander and sheriff have made it possible for inmates in the county jail to come together as a choir. Wearing their black-and-white striped and orange uniforms, they recently began singing on Sundays at local churches. They sing well-loved songs, and a testimony is shared. The reception has been positive. The hope is that these men are growing in faith and will be spiritually equipped to live a Christian life when their sentences are completed. I certainly share that hope—one of the inmates is my younger brother.

The psalmist wrote of God’s promises to His people. Israel’s people sinned by disobeying God’s commands, and David’s earthly kingdom did not reign forever. Sinners independent of God will experience the consequences of their unrepentant rebellion. However, God never stops caring for His people, and He never forgets His promises to them. As promised, He sent the Messiah, the eternal king of David’s line. All have the opportunity to be saved from sin’s separation and receive salvation. He is always faithful.

We all need extra chances in life. Thankfully God unconditionally loves us, so of course He gives all who repent second, third, fourth, and infinitely more chances.

Live every day to honor God in appreciation for His enduring love and faithfulness.
