He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain. (Rev. 21:4)
WALKING PAST THE TREE countless times before, I never noticed. But yesterday, I looked up and saw a perfect eye in the bark of my neighbor’s tree. Pulling my smartphone out of my pocket, I clicked a picture of this amazing work of nature and then did what Facebookers do: posted the picture.
One friend commented, “It looks like a tear flowing from the eye. Do you see it?” Looking at the picture again—sure enough—a dark gray spot dripping from the rough bark eye. Mother Teresa came to mind. She said, “In this world we cannot all do great things; we can only do small things with great love.” I thought of the thousands of lives she touched as she wiped away many a tear. Such a small act, but so powerful.
Jesus told us to love each other the same way He loves us. He desires for us to parade His compelling love before a broken world. Not only through social activism, but even more so by how we relate to each other—by caring enough to do small things with great love for the hurting people around us.
What a great day it will be when He will wipe every tear from every eye. Even nature will no longer weep when He makes all things new.
Keep your eyes open for hurting people and wipe away some tears.
