For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. (Prov. 1:32)

THE GOAL OF WARNINGS is to save lives, but some people foolishly ignore them. An elderly woman refused to vacate her ground-floor motel room when Hurricane Irene flooded the East Coast. Firefighters warned her that she might drown if she stayed, but she would not heed their warning. Soon floodwater engulfed the motel, making it impossible for her to escape. As firefighters watched helplessly from a distance, they saw her standing and screaming in the doorway.

Far too often, cross-country skiers push past avalanche danger signs and venture into out-of-bounds areas. Unable to flee a sudden avalanche, they perish under deep, heavy, cascading snow.

Raging fires, too, claim the lives of homeowners who stubbornly reject the urgent warning to “get out now.” They choose to grab a garden hose and stay and defend their property. By the time they realize they face a losing battle, there is no hope of escaping the flames.

In His Word, God has issued ample warning about the dreadful consequences of rejecting His offer of salvation. If we have heeded the warning, we have peace and the prospect of heaven. But we must alert the lost to what lies ahead if they reject the warning.

Warn someone today about the wages of sin, but also share the good news that God offers forgiveness to all who believe in His Son.
