Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free. (Rom. 8:2)
MY BROTHERS AND I used to play cowboys and Indians. Billy, who was the oldest, always played the role of the cowboy. As the youngest, Tommy was always the Indian. Since I was stout and strong, I was relegated to play the horse that provided transport for Billy to chase Tommy from one room to the next. Once he was caught, Tommy was made to stand on the four-inch ledge of the bathtub with his arms raised and tied securely to the overhead shower curtain rod.
One time, after tying him up, Billy and I decided to go and watch one of our favorite television shows, The Flintstones. We only planned to watch for a few moments and then go set Tommy free. However, we got so immersed in watching that we forgot about him. Right after the The Flintstones, another cartoon program, The Jetsons, came on. Both Billy and I remained totally zoned out about Tommy. For over fifty minutes he stood as a prisoner.
When we realized what we had done, we feared approaching him, but we knew we had to set him free. We just knew he was going to “kill” us once he was unbound. Instead, he began jumping up and down with great joy, exclaiming, “It feels so good to finally be free!” Spiritually, it is wonderful to be set free from the bondage of sin.
Don’t settle for bondage when Christ can set you free!
