Isaiah 60:1–5

Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. (Isa. 60:1)

Excited screaming filled the air as the swimmers neared the finish. Both girls stayed close during each turn, leaving all other swimmers far behind. Taking her final stroke, Bri wondered who won. Her opponent’s teammates erupted with elation as the scoreboard flashed the results. Disappointed over her loss, Bri was shocked as she became the target of trash talk from those celebrating her opponent’s victory. Hurt and angry, she quickly left the pool and ran to the locker room. But with the help of her coach, Bri knew what she needed to do. Crossing the deck to her opponent’s tent and in front of many who had yelled in her face, she extended her congratulations to her fellow swimmer. While it was difficult, she thanked God for giving her the courage to take a higher road.

All of us experience similar difficult issues in life. Some come as expected, while others surprise us. Because of God’s transforming grace, His call to us remain the same during these moments. If we are willing to take that first step above the trouble, He promises to release His empowering strength to bring redeeming life.

The light of heaven’s King burns bright within our hearts, ready to intensify with every passing day. Its release comes as we choose to give to others what God already has given to us.

Trust what you have to share of God’s light in your situation.
