We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. (1 Cor. 2:12)

STUDYING UNDER MADELINE L’ENGLE was the opportunity of a lifetime, especially as a young writer in college. The few weeks she devoted to a summer course gave dozens of us a far deeper understanding not only of writing, but also of ways to tap into the creativity of God. Ms. L’Engle freely shared her insights and experience in putting together great ideas often by assigning us to simply go somewhere and be still, noticing all the details God had put into place for us to better understand Him. Every student in the course knew we were hearing from one of the best creative writers of our lifetime. We valued each moment in the class. All these years later, I’m still peeling off layers of her wisdom.

Paul encouraged the early church to appreciate the bounty of wisdom and understanding God made available to them. Then as now, the Holy Spirit helps us value and understand the free gifts of God, from salvation through Christ to the gifts we have as a part of the body of Christ. The Spirit helps us tap into the creativity and wisdom of God himself, not simply into the wisdom of men. Thanks to the Holy Spirit, we can discover what God has prepared for those who love Him.

We need to value the lifetime we have in the classroom of the Holy Spirit!

As you read the Bible today, listen to the Spirit of God for fresh insights.
