I, the Lord, have called you . . . and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles. (Isa. 42:6)

WE HAVE ALL BEEN THERE. Having passion to do something for God, but also having the uncertainty of either not knowing exactly what that is or how we are to put it into action. Working with various youth and young adult groups through the years, this uncertainty is one of the main common denominators I’ve seen of those in these influential years.

The Israelites also found themselves in such a place. As God’s chosen people, I’m sure they wondered what it meant to be “a covenant for the people” and “a light for the Gentiles.” Yet, even through the uncertainty this calling may have held, there is also a sense of belonging and purpose. He had given them a part to play in the plan for His creation. He had given them a purpose. God had called them.

As we walk in the direction God is leading, we do so by faith and obedience; and it is through this faith and obedience that we are to be the covenant for the people and a light that shines hope to those around us.

Through walking by faith and obedience, we find that we truly belong. We find that we have a purpose within His plan for creation. We see that God has called us to be the light that shines Christ into the world.

Ask God to reveal how you are living out His calling on your life.
