Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. (Rom. 8:14)
IF I WERE TO TAKE A TREK through unfamiliar mountains, I would want a guide. Those who are so bold as to tackle Mount Everest depend on a guide to lead them. To live the Christian life, we, too, need a faithful guide.
Just prior to speaking about being led by the Spirit of God, Paul challenged us with this thought: “If by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live” (Rom. 8:13). Talk about an unfamiliar path, those who have been living a self-centered life have no experience with putting to death the misdeeds of the body. Obviously, we need a guide.
Fortunately, the Holy Spirit within us is prepared to lead us in the way we should go. Even so, putting to death our misdeeds is more difficult than it sounds.
When I became a believer as a teen, most sinful misbehavior dropped off immediately. I understood enough of Christianity to have a basic understanding of right and wrong. My desires changed so that I wanted to do what was right. But the finer points of learning to think like a Christian, talk like a Christian, behave like a Christian, and discipline myself like a Christian were another matter. I’m grateful that the Spirit led me. As His child, I needed guidance and He provided it.
Trust the Spirit today to lead you in His ways.
