Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness and who seek the Lord: Look to the rock from which you were cut and to the quarry from which you were hewn. (Isa. 51:1)
WHEN WE TOUR MUSEUMS, we learn about the heritage of the people of that region. We see symbols of their culture, artwork, history, and traditions. Similarly, when we spend time with the precious elderly in church, we are sure to hear about a rich heritage of faith. It’s like touring a museum with them as they reminisce with smiles on their faces, songs in their hearts, and a look in their eyes that would touch the most hardhearted among us.
God wanted the Israelites to remember their heritage. They had a lineage of faith, ancestors who had committed themselves to trusting and serving God. Their ancestors were blessed because of this devotion.
When we commit our lives to the Lord, He adopts us and gives us a heritage of faith. People who paved the way before us chased righteousness and sought God with every fiber of their beings. As we follow in their footsteps, we experience the Lord’s blessings just as they did. His comfort, refreshing, renewal, and joy promised to the Israelites centuries ago will be ours as well.
Remember your heritage of a pursuit of righteousness, and you will receive God’s rest.
