Then the land had rest from war. (Josh. 14:15)
Was it ever going to end? It was almost as if the paperwork taunted her tattered heart with her new reality. Her marriage was ending. It wasn’t what she wanted, and it wasn’t what she had been fighting so diligently for. They had promised each other forever.
In the flurry and chaos of her husband moving to an apartment and closing the door on their life together, she had found solace again and again on her knees. Hopes would rise but then a conversation would dash them. She would reach out to her husband, and he would remain cold. She felt ill-prepared for this battle she fought. But in her quiet prayer closet, she always found strength and calm. For it was there that her Father whispered, “Don’t pursue him. Pursue me.” She leaned into the Lord’s voice in this season of battle. She tuned in to his grace and took each step as she felt him lead. And the Lord held her heart and spoke peace in the chaos.
On Caleb’s mission, he had many opportunities to follow the others or take things into his own hands. He could have rejected the Lord’s command and gone his own way. But he chose to follow his convictions and to heed the voice of the Lord. In so doing, he helped his people to find peace.
Whatever chaos you face, listen to the Lord’s voice and find rest.
