In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matt. 5:16)

A GOOD FRIEND MOVED AWAY a few years ago. We used to love to get together with our families and share meals. She is very intelligent and was always able to challenge me to think about things on a higher level. We encouraged each other as we struggled with the issues that came up as we raised our families. We watched movies together, shared a love for board games and Bible studies, and spent a lot of time laughing. Is it any wonder I missed her terribly when she moved halfway across the country? During a visit not long ago, I asked her if she had been able to make some new friends. She took a few moments to think and then told me, “You are just so . . . nice! I haven’t been able to find anyone as nice!”

I have to admit, I was a little bit floored by her comment. But it was encouraging to hear that she saw good things in me—the source of which is Jesus. According to Him, kingdom living means letting light shine through us to glorify God.

From my perspective, I was just living life, but my friend saw more. It’s another example of Jesus knowing what He was talking about: living our lives in a way that lets His light shine from us, bringing glory to God.

This week live intentionally to bring light to those around you.
