The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Gen. 2:18)
During the hottest summer in recorded history, my family and I decided to take a trip to some of the warmest parts of our state. We armed ourselves with every type of apparatus to cool ourselves, including buying a large shade shelter to set up in our camp spot. There were several to pick from at the store, but this one claimed we could set it up in one minute. As my hubby finished securing the tent, I started with the shelter. I read the directions and got to work. However, I was stumped by step two. I put my hands on the stickers saying “pull here,” but nothing worked. I even got my daughter to try with me to no avail. Twenty minutes later, I sat down, defeated.
Later on, my husband offered to help me. He, too, placed his hands on the designated spot while I did the same on the other side. This time, instead of the frame dragging across the sand, it popped open! We found out that the canopy could in fact be assembled in one minute, but only with two adults.
The same is true in our marriages. There are many things that are tough or impossible to do alone. But when we work together with the suitable helper God has given us, we can accomplish great things.
