For the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below. (Josh. 2:11)

SO MANY of the significant events that have shaped your life were beyond your control. You did not choose the city, state, or country in which you would be born. No one consulted you about what period in history you would prefer to live. For better or worse, you were born into a specific family, and your father and mother were chosen for you. You can easily imagine how different life would be if you had been allowed to make one or two of those important decisions. Or perhaps you wouldn’t have changed a thing! Either way, it’s important not to miss the opportunity to make the most significant decision of your life.

Rahab didn’t miss it. As she heard the terrifying reports about the invading Israelites (vv. 9–11), she could have responded in so many different ways. Fear. Regret. Anger. Despair. Resignation. Instead, she made the most significant decision of her life. She acknowledged the truth that the God of the Israelites is the king over heaven and earth (v. 11). She recognized that God chose Abraham’s family as His own. At great risk, she decided to abandon her heritage and tradition and seek to join up with the Israelites. By doing so, she brought salvation to her house.

You have the same choice today. Will you acknowledge God as king and take your place in His family?

Choose today whom you will serve.
