Relief efforts are still underway following the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Mindanao, Philippines on June 8, 2026.

Churches, families, and communities across the affected region continue to face significant challenges as they recover from the impact of the disaster. Yet even amid loss and uncertainty, Wesleyan believers across the Philippines are demonstrating remarkable faith, resilience, and hope.

As the six Wesleyan churches and district center that were destroyed move forward with demolition and prepare to rebuild, these funds will help to bring practical relief to the congregants while also supporting reconstruction efforts.

Support relief efforts through Global Partners and World Hope International

Relief Efforts Underway

Following the earthquake, The Wesleyan Church has worked through Global Partners and World Hope International to mobilize prayer and financial support for affected churches and communities.

As of June 18, supporters have given $6,750 to the Global Partners Emergency Relief Fund. These funds will help provide practical assistance to affected congregations while also supporting recovery and rebuilding efforts.

Rev. Amos B. Anteg, General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church of the Philippines, shared that demolition and cleanup efforts began shortly after the earthquake. Teams from the Southern Mindanao District have been clearing damaged sites while also distributing bottled water, rice, and other supplies to both church members and their surrounding communities.

District Superintendent Rev. Oliver Oximas has personally supervised much of the recovery work and is helping coordinate rebuilding efforts as support continues to arrive from churches throughout the Philippines.

Worship Continues

Even though church buildings have been lost, the Church itself remains strong.

The Sunday following the earthquake, some Wesleyan believers gathered in a neighboring home to worship together. Reflecting on their experience, they shared:

“Our worship place may have been totally damaged, but our desire to worship the God who shakes the earth will never collapse.”

Members of Glan Wesleyan Church also gathered for worship without a church building, expressing gratitude for God’s faithfulness and the support of fellow believers.

Their testimony is a powerful reminder that while buildings can be damaged, faith, fellowship, and the mission of Christ continue.

The Mission Continues

Despite the devastation, ministry has not stopped.

In the days following the earthquake, district conferences continued across the Philippines. Rev. Anteg shared that participants at the 36th District Conference of the Eastern Mindanao District experienced several seconds of aftershocks during the gathering, yet remained steadfast in their faith.

Meanwhile, the Southwestern Mindanao District recently concluded its district conference with a renewed focus on reaching the unreached together.

“We are humbled and encouraged by our brothers and sisters in the Philippines,” said Global Partners leaders. “Even during this difficult season, they continue to worship, serve, and advance the mission of Jesus Christ.”
