Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust. (Ps. 40:4)

WHEN I STUDIED world religions in college, I was exposed for the first time to faiths other than the one I lived and breathed all my life as a pastor’s son. I had barely been aware there were other ways to view the world, but it turned out that hosts of people devoutly followed other gods just as fervently as I believed in Jesus Christ.

This devotion is not intended to be an argument explaining why the Christian faith is the ultimate path to truth, though it is that. But we can hardly talk about truth all week without acknowledging the fact that there is but one God, who sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to set us free, and that His Holy Spirit now transforms us into His likeness. Surrounded as we are by mistaken claims of truth—not merely other world religions, but also destructive mind-sets such as consumerism, hedonism, and materialism—it’s important to know and speak eternal truth.

The Lord has saved me. “He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand” (Ps. 40:2). This is my story. This is the God I know. And I will proclaim His name and His power to all who will listen.

Worship God with your full attention today.
